Lisa Visited Us

My childhood friend, Lisa, needed to come to Germany for work, and decided to swing by for a fun-filled Hamburg weekend. Not only were we able to see Hamburg and watch some soccer, we also had the chance to catch up on each other’s lives and just enjoy each other’s company. It was a wonderful weekend – Lisa you are always welcome back.

We started the weekend by watching the Germany v. Portugal game at an Italian wine bar in Altona with all of Ken’s Italian colleagues. We ate merguez sausages and couscous (um… definitely not Italian) with huge helpings of bread and cheese while sipping our Italian wine and cheering for Germany. It was the only classy soccer-viewing-experience I had, but this hole-in-the-wall wine bar ended up being a lot of fun once we figured out how to ask for a Weinschorle (a wine spritz)! We even had places to sit! Germany won – yay – so we headed home to let Lisa try to adjust to German time…and because I was tired!

Sunday is always reserved for long walks, since everything but restaurants are closed. We went to Sternschanze to try to find a good breakfast joint. We found a little place that served omelettes, which made me exceedingly happy, and spent some time flipping through German magazines.

We then went to the harbor and walked along one of the canals. Of course it started to rain, so we made our way inside a local brewery and watched the clouds roll by.

Monday morning I had Lisa to myself so we could girl talk and eat some yummy flammkuchen before I put her on a train to Hannover. I felt like a mother watching her child leave on the school bus…I just stood there waving for a little while, hung out in the station while the train was stationary, and then sadly went home as I watched the train pull away. Although it was a quick visit, I am so glad Lisa took the time to pay us a visit before heading to Hannover for work. Kisses Lisa – we love you!
